The only international multiple-airplane racing series in the world, Air Race 1, is set to begin in just one month, thrilling audiences on three continents throughout 2015. The exclusive series of real air racing starts on 7th June 2015 in the resort town of Monastir, Tunisia, making history as the first race of its class on the African continent.
The race teams will then have to prepare quickly for the next race which takes place in Lleida, Catalunya, Spain on 28th June. The final race of the Air Race 1 World Cup will be held in Reno, USA, during the famed Reno Air Races on 20th September where the world cup trophy of formula air racing will be handed out for the first time to the overall winner.
The Air Race 1 World Cup is a class of air race known in air sports for generations as formula one air racing. It is based on a set of rules, or formula, that define how the aircraft are built. All airplanes are built to the same specification and raced by top aviators at speeds of up to 450kph
Jeff Zaltman, CEO of Air Race 1, said: “A lot of work and effort was put into this series by hundreds of people and many prestigious organizations. Air racing fans and indeed the air racing industry have waited a long time for a true international air race series where pilots race directly against each other on a closed circuit, as in most other forms of motorsport. We expect this exciting series to be a popular mainstream sport in the near future. We thank our host partners TAV Airports, Aeroports de Catalunya and the Reno Air Racing Association for being visionary in their support of air racing.”
